Overview

Ethereum is a decentralized blockchain network that enables users to control their assets, data, and identity directly without relying on banks or intermediaries. At its core is the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), a global virtual computer whose state is maintained and agreed upon by thousands of independent nodes worldwide.

The platform powers smart contracts—executable programs that run on the blockchain—enabling developers to build decentralized applications (dapps), financial instruments, marketplaces, and other services. Ether (ETH) is the native cryptocurrency used to pay for computation and incentivize network participants (validators) who maintain the network through proof-of-stake consensus.
